Optimizing your localization pipeline for a dynamic universe

Lecturer: David Lakritz, Language Automation, Inc.

With the increasing popularity of MMOGs and other multiplayer games, the need to serve an increasingly global audience and make content and assets available in multiple languages has become a critical factor in ensuring the successful worldwide deployment of a game. As virtual worlds evolve, content is becoming increasingly dynamic, with frequent updates and short localization schedules the norm rather than the exception.

This talk will look at localization from a unique perspective -- as a business process and not just a black-box activity -- and provide insights into how the increasing demands of the market can be met most effectively. Specific recommendations will be offered to help identify potential bottlenecks and risks in the process which can contribute to delays, added costs and poor quality. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of the translator and translation service provider, where bottlenecks and problems frequently occur. Optimized workflow and collaborative structures will also be discussed.

Attendees will gain a better understanding of the entire localization pipeline, and a fresh perspective on ways they can better manage the process.

Intended Audience: Anyone involved in the production process who could benefit from greater efficiencies in the localization process, both management and non-management
